Price Improvement for Methionine in Europe and China

Buyers have become prudent due to the rapid price increases over the past few weeks. In Europe, import quotas of 300,000 MT without tariffs are expected to be reached in the coming weeks. Following this threshold, a 6.3% tariff will be imposed by the end of this year. L-Lysine HCL (98%) prices for Q4/2023 have maintained at the high range of 1.45–1.46 EUR/kg, remaining in effect until late September to early October. Meanwhile, non-Chinese origin products have been priced in the range of 1.45 to 1.49 EUR/kg.

DL-Methionine

The market price of methionine has experienced a slight uptick in both China and Europe. Recently, a cluster of Chinese manufacturers have announced a pause in making offers, prompting many dealers to increase their prices as a result. Notably, there have been supply constraints in the market. On September 13th, 2023, Adisseo announced a price increase for Methionine Hydroxy Analogue (MHA), offering it at 17 RMB/kg. Additionally, European dealers have offered the methionine products for Q4/2023 at a higher range between 2.4 and 2.5 EUR/kg. A European manufacturer claimed that their supply of methionine for Q4/2023 is limited. As of now, Sumitomo, NHU and Evonik have not yet made offer for this product.?

L-Threonine

The price of L-Threonine has generally remained stable in the European and Chinese markets. Meihua is gradually introducing their expanded capacity to the market at a controlled pace. Currently, the market remains relatively quiet, with minimal inquiries and transactions. Most buyers are still taking a wait-and-see approach and closely monitoring the market developments. On September 12th, 2023, XMXYG BIOCHEMICAL announced its latest price for L-Threonine, offering it at 12.4 RMB/kg.

L-Valine

The price of L-Valine has remained in the lower range of 4.1-4.2 EUR/KG in Europe. In China, the pricing rise in offerings from one of valine manufacturers has led to a minor increase in the prevailing market price. On September 12th, 2023, XMXYG BIOCHEMICAL made a public announcement to revise its price for L-Valine (60%), setting it at 12.9 RMB/kg. On September 11th, 2023, CJ Group announced a pricing adjustment for its valine product, offering it at 25 RMB/kg. In the U.S., the market price of L-Valine has stabilized following a recent decline.

L-Tryptophan

In the European market, prices have rebounded to higher levels and are showing signs of stabilization. ?The market price now ranges between 7.9 EUR/kg and 8.0 EUR/kg. For customers seeking larger quantities, a slightly lower price of 7.4 EUR/kg may be available. Meanwhile, in China, prices have maintained stable this week. On September 12th, 2023, according to XMXYG BIOCHEMICAL, L-Tryptophan products were priced at 79.5 RMB/kg. On September 11th, 2023, CJ Group announced a pricing adjustment for the same variety, offering it at 75 RMB/kg.
