Price of Ignoring Perspective: Why Prioritizing Material Gain Can Lead to Losing Everything That Matters

Price of Ignoring Perspective: Why Prioritizing Material Gain Can Lead to Losing Everything That Matters

This morning, I played a few chess games with a great soul who will recognize himself. It inspired me to write a bit about that experience and share an insight.

Every chess game illustrates the current character of a player and their inner world, revealing their level of consciousness. One of the beauties of playing a chess game with people who haven't studied chess openings (too much) is precisely the dance of two spirits - no theory, just pure intuition.

In one of our games, my "opponent" at one point hurried to pick up as much material as possible on my 7th row, losing sight of the full picture. And... was checkmated just as he was enjoying collecting my pawns.

We should all be aware of the cost of hyper-achievements and mind our well-being by introspecting our saboteurs, perspectives and beliefs.

I must not interfere too much, but I hope that in his next decisions, he will look at the whole picture and not "take off" exclusively for the material. Otherwise, it could cost him much more.
