Preview of new book on bioenergy and climate change mitigation

The quest for net-zero by 2050 has put in train a global energy transition which aims to replace all fossil fuel energy with renewable energy sources. It has seen the emergence of new bioenergy such as hydrogen and ammonia that supplement the established sources of bioenergy such as biomethane. Grid instabilities caused by intermittent sources such as wind and solar can be balanced by energy storage systems in the form of rechargeable batteries and reversible hydrogen fuel cells which act as dispatchable energy sources.

To understand this global energy revolution and its relevance to climate change mitigation, one must first understand the basic science behind the production and use of both fossil fuels and bioenergy, and the policies and standards that regulate their production and use.

The new book, titled Bioenergy for power generation, transportation and climate change mitigation, was released internationally this month by the Institute of Physics (IOP) Publishing.
