Mental and physical health have been a continuous issue with 74% of American workers feeling stress and obesity and diabetes reaching record highs. Adding fuel to the fire are barriers to access care and new GLP-1 options that are effective, but costly. Altogether, the risk of employees developing serious chronic disease continues to skyrocket - along with health-care costs.?

Recently, we conducted a LinkedIn poll to assess the importance of preventive care.?The polls results are in – 82%?think that a preventive care program is extremely important to address health-care costs. ?

Yet there’s a disconnect – preventive care may be considered important, but real-world uptake has been on the decline. For example,?1 in 4 Americans skip the wellness appointments that can better their health and, for some, save their lives. So, how can employers increase the engagement of their preventive care efforts??

Foundation in behavior change: Quick fixes are unstainable. Instead look for preventive care programs based on behavioral science. Treating the whole person—not the scale or condition—will resonate more with your people and yield long-lasting results.?

Personalization: One-size-fits-all approaches fail to produce sustainable results, because they fail to account for the unique needs of every population. Programs that consider diverse factors such as ethnicity, socioeconomic status, age, gender, learning styles and more are key for comprehensive results.???

Full spectrum of care: A preventive care solution with a broad range of tools and tactics is more clinically and cost effective. Are some of the high-cost measures, such as GLP-1s, out of budget? There are effective alternatives to costly care, and the more choices there are, the more fine-tuned and individualized a treatment plan can be. ?

Data, data, data: Monitoring progress and outcomes is an essential component of any successful preventive care program. Making sure there are robust and transparent reporting capabilities is key for identifying actionable change.?

This is not an inclusive list, but by using these basic tactics, employers can ensure that their preventive care efforts will be effective – leading to a happier and more productive workforce.???
