Some time ago, we wrote a post that got a lot of flack, titled:
?
A Doona is a Do Not
?
Parents who loved the Doona stroller got upset. "My baby loves it!" "He falls asleep so easily in it!" "She's so comfortable in it!"
?
Yes, well... that's the problem.
?
Putting a baby in "comfortable", contoured strollers, car seats, bouncers on a regular basis can actually lead to reflex integration and other developmental issues, because the baby's movement is restricted.
?
It's normal to get defensive when someone suggests you're doing something that's not good for your child. So people were upset. .
?
But we're not going to keep quiet on these topics.
?
Why?
?
Because in the 25+ years of our pediatric OT practice, we’ve seen so many kids come through our doors with reflex, sensory and other developmental issues that could have been prevented or minimized - if their parents had only had the right information when they were babies.
?
We often guided the parents of these kids to do simple but powerful things that changed the game for their younger children.
?
Prevention became a mission of ours.
?
It's SO much easier to prevent developmental problems than to spend years - and lots of money - treating emotional, behavioral or academic issues.
?
We're going to keep sharing critical developmental information, even if it makes some people defensive and upset.?
?
It's worth it for the smart, thoughtful, dedicated parents who will take it to heart.
?
They are the ones who will gift their children a much, much smoother path to success.
?
We're also going to keep running our Baby on Track? live online course - to empower the parents of 0- to 18-month-olds (and their babies!).
?
Baby on Track? is opening next month - with the first powerful session on Tuesday, March 18th!
?
Why waste years of your precious child’s childhood and adolescence struggling to fix issues that could have been prevented in babyhood?
?
If you’re the parent of a 0- to 18-month-old baby, give this gift to your child - and yourself.
