Preventing Plastic from Being Dumped The Power of One

THE POWER OF ONE - ONE PERSON, ONE ACT, ONE STEP AHEAD

During my morning walk in the society, I saw a significant quantity of plastic lying outside couple of houses in our society,

It was generated from unpacking of household goods & furniture of a couple of neighbours who were moving in

There was a possibility that this plastic would end up in dump yards mixed with other wastes or being burnt as i have been observing from my past experiences

I decided to see that plastic waste does not end up in landfills or burnt and could be given for recycling

So this is what I did

I took the initiative to meet the owner during lunch hours on 6th October 2022 and requested to keep the plastic waste separate, keep it at our residence just 2 plots beside them for taking to our #spb recycling plant

For the other house, I and Rashmi Kothari went across on 7th October morning and requested them to keep the packaging plastic separate

I & Rashmi arranged to send our tempo on 7th October to both the houses and collect the plastic and deliver to Upcycle Chakra facility. (www.upcyclechakra.com)

I could prevent good plastic from being wasted and going to landfills or being burnt causing pollution (even if a small quantity)

I have now also reached out to our society management at Shaligram Greens to see if there is a possibility to create the awareness of segregation of plastic at source, shared the latest video https://youtu.be/rzyoQ4-i31g & https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmx6-Xc3VMU to see if we can make this a long term initiative.

Small steps and small initiatives by individuals could perhaps be building blocks to a better environment. Let's not wait for someone coming from outside as we as ONE individual may not be able to do much, but consider the Power of One individual taking a positive action.

We are a group of individuals who have come together ONE by ONE and becoming a MOVEMENT which we are happy to see catching the attention.
