Preventing and managing a COVID-19 outbreak in the workplace: City and Hackney Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

As part of their joint COVID-19 Local Outbreak Control Plan (LOCP), the City Corporation and London Borough of Hackney have published a Standard Operating Procedure for workplace settings.

This outlines how an outbreak (two or more cases, or a single complex case, linked to the workplace) will be identified, reported and managed by Public Health England, with support from the local authority, and the role and responsibilities of employers within this process.

The SOP also outlines the process through which information about an outbreak can flow in a timely manner between the setting, the local authority and Public Health England. It is a useful document and has been drawn up with kind feedback from some of our local businesses.

Access the Workplace SOP here. There is also an SOP available for take-away food premises and mobile catering, and more in development for additional settings; follow the link.

David Ward MSyI On viewing these vital 'health department' protocols, ISIO acknowledges as being highly relevant. However, the security industry have distinct security protocols related to handling an active biological threat. Strangely enough, it seems that if a person is found with cv-19 on a site, then the security department will be blamed and not the HR department because security personnel are the 'gate keepers'. The security protocols talk to the equipment, technology and layered manpower as this is a multiple threat situation. Security personnel will be managing a population that is reacting out of norm for numerous reasons. Furthermore, there are other issues out-lined on ISIO articles which talks to the spike in crime that is not only related to physical security but also talks to white collar crime, transnational and local crime besides gang related crime. All of these threats on rolling out will impact on the security department and the service providers that are unable to identify bully, blackmail, corruption and extortion. Security Protocols must also be considered!
