Conference Paper - Jakarta, 6 September 2018.
Crisis communication also occurs in medical sector. It is shown, for instance, by the incidents of malpractice claims towards the doctors and their work places. Therefore, it is understandable if there is question on whether doctors and their medical/health coworkers have conducted enough education towards their patients and their families, which have been among their most important public, which in turn sue the medical practitioners as performing malpractices; or is it caused by bad (lack of) communication between doctors and patients? In Indonesia, malpractice lawsuits have increased from time to time. Indonesian Medical Disciplinary Board (MKDKI) stated that between 2006 and 2012 there were 183 pleas towards MKDKI. Perhaps because of the above, many Indonesian preferred to obtain medical treatment in neighboring countries such as Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. This paper aims to review how effective communication between doctors and patients can prevent the crisis of malpractice accusation in Indonesia. (Full text available by request.)
