Preventing Cyber Attacks: Employee cyber security training
Learning Curve Group
We are a national training and education specialist. We transform lives through learning.
With complex online scams and cyber crime, it’s essential that organisations understand preventative measures to maintain cyber security.
It’s evident that cyber security is fast becoming a main concern for many organisations as the demand for Cyber Security courses in the UK continues to grow. Our most popular IT and Digital course is our Level 2 Cyber Security qualification which, since the beginning of the year, has had more than double the uptake and has become our second most popular qualification.
The cost of cyber crime
In April 2024, the UK government reported that a staggering 50% of businesses and 32% of charities identified cyber breaches or attacks in the previous 12 months. This is even higher for medium and large businesses, where 70% and 74% respectively reported a cyber attack in the same period.
The financial ramifications are substantial too, with the average annual cost of cyber crime for businesses estimated at £1,120 per victim. The most disruptive attacks averaged at a cost of £1,205 for all businesses, and around £10,830 for medium and large businesses!
24% of attacked businesses experienced at least one negative impact, so it’s understandable that three quarters (75%) of businesses say that cyber security is a high priority of theirs.
Common types of cyber breaches and attacks
The government reported that phishing is by far the most common type of breach or attack, making up 84% of all threats. Phishing is followed by others impersonating organisations in emails or online (35%) and then viruses or other malware (17%).
