Preventative Maintenance Purging Program to Avoid screw pulls in injection molding
Every plastic processing facility can improve efficiency and profitability by introducing Unicleanplus Purge Compounds into a Preventative Maintenance Purge Program. This is considered a Best Practice. The majority of aesthetic issues, such as black specks from resin deterioration or color contamination from a previous production run, are caused by a poor purging strategy.
For the Injection Molding Process, Unicleanplus suggests the following Preventative Maintenance Program, which covers the steps listed below:
1) The first step in eliminating the debris and buildup on the screw and in the barrel is to purge the screw and barrel with a mechanical purge compound. Additional purging may be necessary for tougher purging applications.
Unicleanplus UCA/UCC/UCA-L-01/UCC-L-01 grades are recommended.
2) Implement intermittent purging?before, during, and after production runs. Purging every two to three days would be a decent step to begin, however it will vary depending on the resin and colors being used. Depending on the results of the evaluation, extended periods can be added.

3) Start-Ups and Shutdowns Sealing the barrel with Unicleanplus for weekend or holiday shutdowns is ideal to eliminate oxidation of barrel and preventing any buildup from carbon that could be in the beginning stages.

4) Hot runner purging. After the Screw and Barrel have been thoroughly cleaned, the final step is meant to ensure that the mould hot runner is been thoroughly cleaned and are free of contamination.
