It’s extremely encouraging to see efforts to improve patient safety have saved 8,000 lives and saved $2.9 billion in medical costs, according to CMS. This is exactly the kind of #PreventativeCare we need to help Americans get and stay #healthy.
Throughout the country, BCBS companies are developing and executing local and innovative programs that focus on improving American’s health and preventing hospitalizations. Examples include:
- HCSC’s asthma initiative has led to a 50 percent reduction in hospitalizations and emergency-related visits for children and has helped over 640,000 people with #asthma throughout Illinois, Montana, Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico.
- BCBS Rhode Island has partnered with local organizations to develop #RecessRocksinRI, whose goal is to ensure recess is a safe, meaningful and healthy place for every child. Since starting in 2015, #RecessRocksinRI has helped 15,000 students, 200 educators and 16 districts throughout Rhode Island.
- BCBS of Massachusetts’s Dot Rx program is helping under-served families eat healthier and be more physically active through increased access to free or low-cost health and peer coaches.
