A Pretty, Pretty, Pretty Good Approach

Five hours is a hefty chunk of time. And it’s the time I have in the air from Newark to Phoenix. As I have said before, I don’t sleep on a plane. The good news for me is on this particular trip, I am flying solo (well, technically there’s 200 other people on the flight. Plus the crew) without kids. As an added bonus, this is on the return from giving a talk. My work is kinda done.

?

But it also kinda never ends.

?

I try to use my travel and flight time productively, as you are reading right now. I also use it to hone my slides for talks, read books to (hopefully) make me smarter, and work on my next book (yes, you just got a little teaser that I am writing another book!. If you haven’t read my first one, you probably should go get Permission to Care: Building a Healthcare Culture That Thrives in Chaos. Odds are, based on my sales, you haven’t yet). But on the return flights, I like to revel a bit in the work I have completed and relax with the vast array of entertainment available on flights these days.

?

But I also have these posts to write.

?

But the newest season of Curb Your Enthusiasm is streaming.

?

Now would be the time for one of my favorite Larry David gifs of all time:

?

And so here I am typing instead of laughing. Actually that’s not true. I mind myself hilarious and chortle at my own jokes regularly.

?

At least someone is laughing.

?

And that’s how I like to approach life: dangle the carrot of something with a little more pleasurable and a little less work…after I get something done. My guess is if you do the same, you’ll feel better when you kick back and enjoy knowing that something, anything, is knocked off that to-do list.

Hey, you read the whole thing! You go, you! If you enjoyed it, please comment or share to help others find it. If you find that a short newsletter just a few times a week isn't enough, why don't you go check out my book, "Permission to Care: Building a Healthcare Culture that Thrives in Chaos"? I also speak to groups! Send me a message if you think I'd be a good fit for your next event. Thanks so much again for reading.
