During February 2010, I got a call from technical team from a Bhopal based company (VSIL) with a requested if ADAPT International can be associated with them to design a Post Tension Building project. Finally it was concluded that VSIL will implement ADAPT Builder solution while ADAPT International will design a typical pour of first floor waffle slab and train their designers simultaneously. Later we also acted as mentor to help their team to design PT beams at top floor which spans upto 43.5 meter.
To start with we received the ETABS model as well as the Framing Plan in AutoCAD. Using Integration Console it was easy to import the Geometry and Gravity Loads from ETABS models and compare it with the overlay AutoCAD plan.
As per standard procedure the design criteria was finalized and signed between ADAPT and VSIL to proceed. It was also decided the Waffle Slab area shown above will be designed by ADAPT and then a detailed on project training will be delivered to the design team so that they can replicate it for the remaining pours.
The project timeline was very much aggressive and we had to hire an external draftsman to take care of the CAD drawing ready for construction. VSIL team visited ADAPT Kolkata office besides having several online session to learn the technology and implement it successfully for remaining pours and other floors.
Some pictures are attached on the left which shows:
1) The Construction Site during Site Mobilization
2) The structure during construction
3) The completed structure.
Once they reached to the top floor beneath the dome there were PT beams upto 43.5 meter long. Though the depth was restricted to maximum 1.5 m due to the use of post tension. The structure was designed as Type 2 floor, i.e. tensile stress was allowed without any visible crack.
As a post tension contractor responsible to supply the material, layout and stressing VSIL acknowledged the service provided to them. This landmark building known as Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Building located at Sector 15A, CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai brought me National Design Award 2017 in Prestressed Concrete by National Design and Research Forum (NDRF) of Institute of Engineers (India) during the Inaugural Session of the 32nd Indian Engineering Congress held in Chennai on December 21, 2017.
