Pressuredoc's 26 Rules For Business
Pressuredoc’s 26 Rules for Business (I will begin sharing rules on 20 April 2024, one a day for 26 days)
Since High School, I would think of short phrases because of my interest in Adages. Many of you may not know what an Adage is. Here is an example, taken from a famous movie,
“Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates…you never know what you’re gonna get”
This one is illustrative, but what an Adage means is not evident.
?What is an adage? Taken from Yahoo “An adage is a?short, memorable saying that is considered to be true by the majority of people.”.
Two Adage examples:?
1. "Out of nothing, nothing can come" or as said in modern ‘American English’ – You Get Nothing From Nothing;
2. "Respect thyself, if thou wouldst be respected by others" and here is the updated version - Respect Yourself First To Be Respected.
?As I alluded to, I tried to come up with such sayings from my public-school time. Naturally I continued this and had made several ones to be my ‘Mainstay’. These thought patterns are reflected in a book I wrote in the middle 1990’s, and before I had a computer. It is a book of short sayings about working in America. I have yet to publish it. Back to the 26 Rules of business. I had the basic of the rules established and written before I got a computer in 1998. I did a self-taught crash course to learn how to use computers. I started typing quite a large volume of documents from my own writings as practice.
It was in 1997 I let my sons into the Civil Air Patrol Cadet program, and when I realized there was actually an Adult Service which did actual real stuff for the military and governments, I joined. CAP was an excuse to avoid wasting fuel, and I actually enjoyed ‘serving’.
?It was in CAP that I studied a Professional Development college course from Maxwell Air Force Base and learned some ‘New’ short sayings. I realized I had been using similar ones, ones I had thought up. I added the ones that were in my words, to the growing list of Business Rules. Most likely around 1999 or 2000.
Why ‘The Rules for Business’? I had started my own business in 1983 to sell power washing equipment, car wash equipment and sundry supplies. Yeah, I ran out of money in 1.5 years. I did recover though and began selling throughout the USA, Into Canada, Caribbean and was awarded bids in USSR, China, India, Argentina. I had so much to learn and no mentors, therefore, my list of ‘rules for business’ come from some of my own failures, and how to avoid them.

Fast forward to 2005, and I am in Iraq since fall 2004. I see a list of tongue in cheek Combat Rules and WOW, it has about 10 that are similar to what I thought up! I adopted and reworked three of those to add to my Business Rules. It will not be hard to identify those.
After my return home from Iraq in 2006 and before getting another job, I refined the list into the current format (2007). Before publishing it on my Linked In Profile in 20109(?), I did another edit to this current edition. I returned to Iraq the third time in late 2009 and left 2011 then back in 2013 and out in 2014.
?I am going to publish 1 Rule For Business,? each day, for 26 Days. Staring tomorrow: 20 April 2024. Each rule with have a brief explanation that comes from MY experiences, but not always my behavior. Often, these rules and explanations have come from observing and experiencing others foibles.
?Hope you enjoy the next 26 days of posts!!
?Regards From Pressuredoc
?PS: Pressuredoc was what many called me when I had my Power Washer Manufacturing business. I made it my on line presence.
