Pressure turns Graphite into Diamond!

A sales job is no less than converting an individual into a diamond with the right approach, mindset, and zeal to be the best in the industry.
It is a job with the pressure of conversions and growing the business. It feels like being in a pressure cooker in everyday heat. Initially, the work may seem directionless. From the outside, it may look like there is no growth, promotion, or incentive, but you will be learning many valuable lessons from the inside. Like being in a pressure cooker, once you release the pressure and open the lid, your taste of the same raw vegetables is enhanced, and you relish it more.
Once you release the pressure of being a salesperson, you know who you have become with the most worthy lessons of life-
Resilience

Initial years are the preparation years of Sales that separate men from boys.
I started my career as a salesman 20 yrs back with a globally present bank while learning the art of sales. Door-to-door knocking, cold calling, and no mentor, did everything to achieve my targets. I started doing whatever I thought was suitable for a fresher.
It was my first job after clearing seven rounds of interviews.
It was tough, and every day it was getting more challenging as I was not getting any results.
Signs that read "Dogs and salesman not allowed " demotivated me.

When signs were not enough I would hear comments from strangers, “Itni dhoop mein dopahar ko sirf salesman with a black bag and dogs hi market mein ghumte hai.” (Only a salesman with a black bag and dogs can be seen in the scorching heat of summer)
I started my sales job when there was no digital selling; there was only a field job. For five consecutive 5 years, I drove approx 125 km every single day to reach my sales target irrespective of the weather. The list is endless: knocking on doors, making cold calls, standing outside ATMs the whole day, canopy, home to home, shop to shop. ?
But the fire inside me to be a successful salesperson never allowed me to settle down or compromise on my sales journey of learning.
My failures didn’t define me; each got me closer to my goal. I aimed to become mentally strong and be the best in my field.
My journey was not easy but definitely worth everything, from being a salesman to a ‘National Head.’
Every day is new for salespeople who solve others’ problems with valuable and innovative products and services.
Sales are about selling your product and solving your client’s problem.
My failures, struggles, and all the hustle of being a salesman taught me the most appreciated sales and leadership skills -
1)Patience – You learn to be patient enough to make that one sale despite all the ‘NOs’ to your service and product; with the hope of reaching your day’s target, you keep moving along the day.
2)Listening- A good salesperson and leader is when you are a better listener than a speaker. Listening to prospects’ requirements instead of making that sale happen will help build a connection and trust with you to buy your product.
3)Asking the right questions- This is the real differentiator in sales, which separates men from boys—the art of asking the right questions and understanding the fundamental problem/requirement of the prospects.
4)Objection Handling- This is one of the most critical steps before closing and answering the prospect’s questions to their satisfaction level.
5)Selling the result, not just the Product- The sales mindset has changed. Don’t just sell your product; sell the result to the prospect.

People love to buy, but they don’t like to be sold.
