Press Release - Murphy pitted against Peaty at Manchester International Meet

City of Oxford potential and high performance squad swimmers have started of their 2017/2018 season with a fantastic medal hall (2 Gold, 3 Silver & 4 Bronze) at their first International Meet that took place at the Manchester Aquatics Centre on the 21st and 22nd October 2017.

Amanda Booth Head Coach at the City of Oxford took 12 swimmers to this start of season long course (50m pool) meet. As swimmers from all over the Common Wealth start their push for selection and the opportunity to represent their nation at the Gold Coast Common Wealth Games in 2018.

Highlight of the event was the Men’s Seniors 100m Breaststroke Final, which saw City of Oxford’s David Murphy pitted against World Record holder Adam Peaty of Loughborough University Swimming Club. As expected the race which was fast and frantic and watched on online by 100’s of people resulted in a first place for Peaty, but more importantly for the club an excited and well achieved 3rd place for Murphy.

The action didn’t stop there for City of Oxford as success was seen in the pool for our Junior swimmers 17 and under boys and 16 and under girls. Connor Bryan with Gold in the 100 and 200m breaststroke and silver in the 50m breaststroke, Bronze for Tash Fenton in the 50, 100 and 200m breaststroke, Silver for Dan Jenkins in the 100m backstroke and Silver for Lewis Gilchrist in the 200m backstroke. To quote Amanda Booth; “The season has only just started and with the recent appointment of Michael Peacock as our strength and conditioning coach, there are sure to be more medals and swimmers selected to represent their nation throughout this season.”
