President's letter to ECP and Jail Bharu movement

President's letter to ECP and Jail Bharu movement

President Dr. Arif Alvi has written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner for the date of the elections. This is the second letter from the President to the Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja in which he has expressed his displeasure over the indifference of the Chief Election Commissioner. The President invited the Chief Election Commissioner for consultation on February 20 and said that he was anxiously waiting for the Election Commission to realize its constitutional duties.

The Election Commission has indicated to participate in the meeting called by the President. According to media reports, the Election Commission has written in its letter in response to the President's letter that the Election Commission is an independent institution, which is governed by the Constitution and follows the law, the process of consultation between the President and the Chief Election Commissioner is being done under Article 57(1) of the Constitution. The political and economic condition of the dear country is getting worse hour by hour. In such a situation, the only way to eliminate the possibility of new conflicts and to solve the existing conflicts is that all the institutions and personalities are before the constitution. Surrender your stubborn ego and interests. Everyone has seen the result of not doing this during the last 10 months. If this is not done, the present government, opposition and institutions will be held responsible for the coming disaster.

Since the no-confidence motion against his government was passed in the National Assembly, Imran Khan has been demanding fresh elections. PDM leaders have been telling him that if he wants elections, he should dissolve the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab assemblies. It must not have been an easy decision for Imran Khan to end his governments in two provinces. Some of his colleagues were telling him that the government was planning a round-up against the PTI and violence against the workers. Despite this, Tehreek-e-Insaf dissolved both the provincial assemblies. The respective governors did not sign the notification of the dissolution of the assemblies. This was the same attitude that PDM has been complaining about Tehreek-e-Insaf Governor Umar Sarfaraz Cheema.

The governors would have fixed the date of the elections in this situation under the constitution and instruct the Election Commission to hold elections within 90 days. It should be remembered that at the time of PTI's initial resignation from the National Assembly, the government was talking about holding by-elections within 90 days. Since he does not have his signature on the notification of dissolution of the assembly, he is not authorized to give the date of the elections. In such a situation, the government seems to be trying to postpone the elections by creating rumors. These doubts seem to be strengthened when government figures appear to be advocating postponing the elections. Many controversies regarding the role of the Election Commission have been seen in the last four years. Earlier, the Muslim League-N and the People's Party accused the Election Commission of bias. Several times the leaders of these parties met the Chief Election Commissioner in the form of delegations. The PDM continued to call the Election Commission's behavior suspicious, especially regarding the foreign funding case. Now the situation is that the foreign funding and prohibited funding cases of the opposition leaders and parties of Tehreek-e-Insaaf have not progressed. During this time, they have been continuously objecting to the conduct of the Election Commission and the Chief Election Commissioner.

When the attitude of delaying the demands of the country's largest party will be seen, then the circles with wise thinking should first take guidance from the constitution and then the reasons that are causing the all-round crisis in the country will be examined. Without a doubt, the neglect of the demand of the Tehreek-e-Insaf to hold general elections is increasing the problems of the country.

?A system of distribution is designed so that each organization can fulfill its responsibilities within its limits. Imran Khan has taken the next step to demand the elections. He is saying that despite the court decisions, not announcing the election date is against the constitution. Jail Bharu movement has been announced by Imran Khan. Tehreek-e-Insaaf activists are already on the streets. If the activists come out to fill the jails, how many police and other forces will be able to stop them? The PDM government is looking for a way to escape from the elections; the announcement of boycott of the by-elections of 40 seats of the National Assembly is an example. Fresh mandate of the people can emerge through elections. Newly elected leadership can improve relationships with institutions. Fiscal and development policies can improve. The biggest thing is that global investors will find it easier to deal with a reliable government. It is in everyone's interest to think beyond stubbornness and personal objections. One should play a responsible role to get out.
