President's Day - 2023
Patriot Angels
Helping U.S. Wartime Heroes and spouses pay for their Senior Care.
As we observe President’s Day, we have an opportunity to remember our country’s history of helping Veterans and their families. The tradition of helping the ones who fight for us is older than our Nation itself. Even the early colonists established systems to help ensure the care of wounded Veterans. As war became a more common part of the United States' history, there was a continued push to care for the ones who fought our wars.
During Revolutionary War, pensions were provided to the soldiers who fought for our independence. By the end of the Civil War, our Nation saw the expansion of Veteran's homes. This expansion was reinforced by men like Abraham Lincoln who believed that it was our Nation’s responsibility to “care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan.” As each war was fought, our leaders saw the need to provide better care for our Veteran’s. After the closing of The Great War, President William Harding considered it a “privilege” to return a favor to our Veterans and their families. It was President Harding who would set the stage for our present-day Department of Veteran Affairs, which continues the tradition of honoring our heroes.
Although our leaders did much of the work in legislating programs to protect our Veterans, we must never forget where we began. Our earliest examples were Pilgrims who cared for their neighbors. A foundational piece of the American spirit is to care for the needy. Whether it be in the highest office of our land or in our neighborhoods, that foundational piece must live on. That’s why Patriot Angels exist. We have taken up the mantles of men like Lincoln and Harding, and we continue this Nation’s tradition of caring for our Veterans.
From our family to yours, Happy Presidents Day.
"Whoever is kind to the needy honors God.”
