President Trump Signs Social Media Executive Order, Calls for Removal of Liability Protections Over Censoring

The executive order has as much effect as a toothless Yorkie biting a pit bull. It's not going to do anything. However, it does bring awareness that silicon valley has tremendous power and shaping the way that we think. Maybe someday it needs to be reeled in. But, if social media wasn't slapped on the wrist for being a platform that helped fuel ISIS, its doubtful anything like this will matter. Trump is calling on lawmakers to repeal Section 230, a 1996 law that says "No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider." But, republicans are tasked with, "Do we try to please Trump, or do we vote in favor of free markets?" They're stuck between a rock and a hard place.

The internet is a vast place, big players do have a oligopoly on the market, but there's always somewhere that people can go to share ideas and have their thoughts and voices be heard. Somewhere that they're not tied to an algorithm that directs you like a dog on a leash.
