If President Trump is Reelected

I thought it would be fun to imagine how things might go in a Trump reelection scenario. I’m going to try to keep this (somewhat) neutral, so if you don’t like Trump this will be scary, but if you do like him it might be thrilling.

We must all admit there's a good chance he'll get reelected, and if he has a second term he'll have time to completely transform our government and foreign policy.

Just spitballing, but this is how it could go.

He'll find something like a “server” in Ukraine, or at least a good story about one. The Bidens will be found to have been even more corrupt than supposed, but AG Barr will conclude that bringing charges would be too political, and the Ukrainians won't prosecute, fearful of influencing yet another American presidential election (after having been forced to admit the 2016 DNC hack must have come from somewhere within their borders).

He'll finish purging the FBI of Obama loyalists and traditional Republicans (never-Trumpers) with the FISA investigation. One or two might do some time; a lot will get fired. No more deep state meddling from within our intelligence agencies.

He'll continue to get rid of as many permanent bureaucrats in State as possible so his campaign-supporting billionaire ambassador friends and personal attorneys can conduct his foreign policy unobstructed (with no pesky permanent bureaucrats around to, ya know, blow whistles).

He'll pardon more murderers (or interfere in other ways deep within the chain of command) in other branches of service, forcing top brass to “hail Caesar” or resign.

And so, with blood-bound admirals and generals, a fiercely loyal Senate (that squelched impeachment), a friendly SCOTUS, a Justice Department with an unprecedentedly expansive view of executive power, an FBI full of loyalists, and a State Department pared-down to a band of oligarchs and attorneys reporting directly to him, President Trump will have the power to run the country and conduct foreign policy in the way he sees fit, power like virtually no executive before him.

Exciting or terrifying depending on your perspective.
