Tomorrow a great President, and an even better man, will be laid to rest. History records his countless accolades, but I thought you might enjoy a personal story. Back in the early 90’s, I met with President George H.W. Bush in the West Wing of the White House. At the time, I was flying F-4Es and we spoke about his experience flying as an Aircraft Carrier Pilot in World War II. President Bush looked down at the ground, shook his head, and said “Kelly, I could never fly an aircraft like yours.” He was referring to the complexity of the technology that went into the current generation of fighters. What President Bush didn’t know was that I had flown an AT-6, in a simulated dogfight, with the Confederate Air Force back in 1982. The AT-6 was a WWII fighter/trainer and it was much more difficult to fly than any modern Air Force aircraft! I explained this to President Bush and, ever humble, he just smiled. I am proud that President H.W. Bush was my President and he was a great Commander-In-Chief. All of us could learn something from how he lived his life. He loved America, swore an oath to preserve and defend our Constitution, put others’ needs above his own, and loved God, his wife, family, and friends.

6 年Hi Kelly, Your description on # 41 was a 100% correct. He was one of a few presidents that lived the oath that they swore to uphold. He felt it was a privilege and honor to be selected as the 41st president of the United State. However, his family was a very close second, and you could see it in the later days of his life how proud he was of his country and family. It is going to be hard to find someone that will be able to replace him. Great man. Bob
