President Biden, Quit Stalling on your Promise to the Women of America

He promised both online, and in public, that he would get ERA into the Constitution: he didn't follow through.

Here is the link to Biden's 2020 promise: https://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/documents/biden-campaign-press-release-the-biden-agenda-for-women

Quote from the 2020 Women's Agenda:

"As President, Biden will work with advocates across the country to pass the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) so women's rights are once and for all explicitly enshrined in our Constitution. Biden co-sponsored the ERA nine times. As President, he will work with advocates across the country to enshrine gender equality in our Constitution. Now that Virginia has become the 38th state to ratify the ERA (in 2020), Biden will proudly advocate for Congress to recognize that 3/4th of states have ratified the amendment and take action so our Constitution makes clear that any government-related discrimination against women is unconstitutional."

?As anyone who can read can see that President Biden has either a) fallen down on the job or b) doesn't really care that he is apparently hoodwinking 168 million citizens of the United States. I think that it is option b) and will conclude with why.

?President Biden, can easily remedy the situation. He needs to recall that promise from the 2020 campaign, that (as above) he said that it was his goal to get the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) into the Constitution of the United States.

Biden has had four years to get it done, but he has acted as a hypocrite by sending his representatives to court to fight against placing ERA into the Federal Register (Pierson, 2022).

It should be well known that the position of the Archivist of the United States is a presidentially-appointed office (Cornell Law School, U.S. Code, N.D.). Thus, the President is the Archivist's manager. Presidential appointees of single-headed offices " . . serve at the pleasure of the President" (Congressional Research Service, 2017). Back when he took office in 2020 Biden, fired the Trump-appointed head of the Social Security Agency in 2021 (Superville, 2021). It follows that President Biden can fire the present Archivist of the United States. As the Archivist's manager, since the officer serves ". . at the pleasure of the president . . ." (Congressional Research Service, 2017), Biden has the authority to fire the current Archivist.

In 2021, president Biden announced that he would re-establish a special office to address women's issues to help women "at the breaking point" (Block, 2021). However, he was fighting against ERA in 2022 as noted above. His actions speak of hypocricy.

Biden both can and SHOULD contact the current Archivist and order them to publish the ERA into the Federal Register 'forthwith' (U.S. Code, Cornell Law School, N.D.). By ordering the Archivist to publish, Biden then confirms his support of, and promise to enact, ERA as well as erase his apparent hypocricy.

Thus, if President Biden needs to ensure the women's vote, he should make good on that promise to GET ERA PUBLISHED as the Twenty-Eighth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States! THEN, it will no longer appear as if he is either going back on his word, or attempting to hoodwink the women of the United States, but is sincerely FOR putting Equal Rights for Women into the Constitution of the United States.

Thanks for a cogent and compelling statement, Dr. Buitron. The original campaign promise to get the ERA into our Constitution is in black and white and the amendment is ratified and ready-to-go. A single person, the Archivist, who ultimately reports to President Biden, is the sole hold-up, refusing to publish the Amendment. President Biden could fix this in a day if he had any intention.
