Preserving Perfection in Wimbledon Village

Whenever we undertake to renovate a period property, particularly those listed and in conservation areas, we are mindful of the fact that we are doing it not just for the end user, but for the public at large, who value the significance of maintaining ancient, and increasingly rare buildings in the residential sector. When the Octagon hoarding went up outside Eagle House several years ago (which had been unoccupied for many years) , the entire village was hungry for details on what we were doing, and how careful we were going to be, as this old Jacobean mansion is probably the oldest property standing now in the village.

Luckily our neighbours soon learned their beloved Eagle House was in a safe pair of hands, as we painstakingly started to restore some of the fabulous period detailing both inside and out, and rather miraculously at the same time, transform the interior space into 8 rather wonderful, extraordinary apartments.

Octagon have a long established, and highly responsible track record on saving and enhancing listed buildings and gardens, reassuring for both English Heritage and the local conservation society, who were keeping a careful eye on our activities. 

Simultaneously, as works commenced, so did the enquiries from prospective viewers. They patiently waited until this year to see the first of the apartments completed, and were delighted with the fact that we had managed to retain all the existing period details, but still produced state of the art contemporary living, including latest technology and energy efficient utilities.

People love to think they are buying a bit of history, but still demand today’s standards of comfort and efficiency. These properties are very special, and rare to come by, being in such a first class location in the heart of Wimbledon Village, in a Grade II listed perfectly restored building, which is set back far enough behind the entrance gates to retain an air of seclusion and tranquillity.
