Be Present...Listen!
Mark E. Jablonski
VP/Sr. Director/Consultant/Strategic Program Management - Product and Operations
"Be a good listener" is virtually cliche in the world of leadership advice, but is still a skill many leaders fail to effectively practice. An effective leader, whether in the C-suite or leading any other effort, must be genuinely present and focused without distraction, pre-judgement, or agenda when engaging their teams. Only then will you receive the whole picture you need to successfully guide your team to meet their objectives.
Leaders: The next time you say "I'm listening", check yourself.
I think its equally important to understand what you trying to gain from listening. Some people listen to respond. Some listen to understand. Some listen to placate. Personally, I strive to "listen to understand".
