One World Media
Supporting journalists and filmmakers tell stories in the global south
The One World Media podcast is here!
To celebrate the 35th One World Media Awards, we're releasing a limited series podcast?focused on the global south.?We've spoken to guests about Yemen, South Africa and Mexico who told us about reporting some of the regions' biggest stories and what it's like to be a journalist in these parts of the world.?
On this?first episode,?hear from Annie Slemrod, Middle East Editor at The New Humanitarian and journalist, Mai Noman. Annie speaks about her story,?How coronavirus hit Aden: A Yemeni doctor’s diary, which won the One World Media Coronavirus Reporting Award in 2020. The story is 32-year-old Dr Ammar Derwish's account of how COVID-19 is tearing through Yemen, claiming victims in a country already affected by war.?Mai talks about her BBC audio story,?Death Will Come Tomorrow, that looks at why Yemen can’t cope with another health crisis and how the country responded to Covid-19.
And yes, there's a famous FRIENDS reference in there too???
The guests and the stories they discuss are a peek into daily life, tightening press freedom and what it takes?to tell a story with creativity and honesty.?
We'll release a new episode each week. But for now, listen to this and?let?us know what you think. Please also subscribe, share, rate and review us.?
