At the recent Women in Resources SA event at the CORE Innovation Hub in Adelaide, our Principal Geologist Clinton Dubieniecki presented on Heathgate and our innovative, environmentally safe approach to uranium mining.

The insightful session outlined Heathgate’s process of extracting uranium ore from deep underground without the need for open pits or underground mines. ISR is most often used in sandstone-type uranium deposits found in porous rock formations.?ISR mining involves the extraction of water from the mining zone, to which a small amount of lixiviant?is added. The solution is re-injected into the zone through injection wells and then moves through the ore deposit dissolving the uranium. Pumped to the surface through extraction wells, it flows through an extensive pipeline network to the processing facility where it is processed into a concentrated product for international shipping.

ISR has environmental advantages including reduced surface disturbance, lower water consumption, decreased energy usage and progressive “as we go” rehabilitation of production wells, thereby preventing a long-term footprint.?
