Presentation Skills you must aware of
In this Article you are going to have clear idea about presentation skills and in which areas you need to work to improve and How presentation skills are linked up with public speaking, Communication skills and ultimately with success?
In my Past engineering sector experience while working across globe, I got opportunity to meet people from different countries with different languages and cultures, there was one thing I learnt that if you can interact effectively with people around you either it’s your office or class room you will be more productive and progressive.
Speaking :To understand that productivity let’s start from Communication Skill, From childhood to grown up level and from grown up to office going professional you express your questions, answers, desires, goals in shape of words. Your speaking is basic of your communication skill which will allow others to understand your desires, demands, question and answers. Do you have good communication skills? To know your effective level of communication, you must figure out that how easily people understand you when you speak to them on some agenda. Effective speaking is strongest pillar of Presentation Skills.
Body language: is second equivalent strong pillar when you are going to do presentation. As per definition of Oxford Dictionary Body Language means “The conscious and unconscious movements and postures by which attitudes and feelings are communicated.” Body language connects you with your audience and it will lead to develop focus and concentration in audience on what you are presenting at that moment. Your movements should must align what you are talking about or what you want your audience to convey about that point.
Let’s take an example
Scenarion-1
If you are speaking to group of 200 people in some Organization Hall and you start your presentation with your preset content and make your straight face and without considering at what points what was your body poster.
Scenario- 2
Your body movements are synchronized what you are saying, you know by taking step forward you increase focus, you know if you will tilt your head to one side it will increase empathy, pointing out towards Audience will develop focus and opening your hands towards audience will develop welcoming attitude, lowering voice will increase curiosity so what’s more effective way during presentation.
Content Sequence: Third Important Component to get sequence of your content as per easy to understand rule of thumb. Your content Sequence should be as per context and situation or idea you want to convey. Let’s understand this point by one example. I need to deliver one meeting presentation in which all stakeholders of project are participating and main agenda of meeting is to focus on performance of project.
Scenario-1
If I compile a presentation starting from project salient features to Project Performances and then I will end up with talking about something irrelevant
Scenario-2
I compile a presentation having Meeting Agenda, Project Introduction, Project Performance, Issues and Risk, Solutions, Way forward Plan, can make some good impact on stakeholders. Your Content Sequence is just like mobile signals, when signals are smooth communication across mobiles is smooth but when its fluctuating you can’t understand even if you are focused.
Conclusion: If your presentation is incorporated with effective speaking skills, synchronized attention catching movements with easy to understand ride of content you want convey, then it will 100% get you results, appreciations and success. Now let me ask you one question if you will miss all those important pillars while doing your public speaking/presentations would you survive professionally for long time?
