Present Rainy Monsoon Overcomes the Water Demands in Coimbatore!!!

Since the onset of Southwest monsoon from last month, the ghat regions of Coimbatore district have received bounteous amount of rainfall. According to the Revenue Department officials, the district had received 94 % of the average rainfall it received during the corresponding period over last year

As about report on last month from leading newspaper - The Times of India on 27th April 2022

“Coimbatore: East zone to get water once in 10 days -” describes that the existing water in the reservoir is adequate to meet out the demand till June/ July, after which the South West Monsoon would set in and help increase the storage position. Also, in moderate summer showers in the catchment areas over the last few days and water level rose narrowly in the reservoir.

It insists that water shortage issue normally comes to haunt residents of Coimbatore when water level in the Siruvani Dam goes down drastically. This year, the storage level in the dam is comfortable. Yet, water drawn from the dam has been reduced drastically resulting in erratic water supply to the city.

The reason for reduced water withdrawal, cited by officials of the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD Board) is Kerala’s refusal to open the fourth valve, which is the bottom most water intake point in the dam.

But the expected south-west monsoon arrival escapes out from the tough water drought in Coimbatore.

The city residents can heave a sigh of relief as the drinking water supply situation has improved due to widespread rainfall in the catchment areas of Siruvani and Pilloor reservoirs that provide water to the city.

Our Corporation says that with the present storage, it will be able to manage the water supply to the city for the next three to four months.

This raining monsoon not only made the climate chill, also furnishes the water demand in Coimbatore.
