Present Progressive in Spanish-
Presente Progresivo = The /-ing/ in English:
It is important to know that some of the tenses in English are very similar in spanish. One example of this is that in English we use the gerund, which is the /ing/to show something that we are doing at the current moment. In Spanish, we use the verb ‘estar’plus the gerundio {-ando/ -iendo} to say something that we are doing at the current moment, to catch up, and to express a safe future plan.
Yo estoy Nosotros/as estamos + verb + {-ando or –iendo}
Tu estas Ellos/ellas/ustedes están
él/Ella/usted está
Examples:
I am walking to school. / Estoy caminando a la escuela.
We are flying to Colombia for Christmas. / Estamos volando a Colombia para Navidad.
She is taking Spanish classes on Fridays. / Ella está tomando clases de espa?ol los viernes.
**An important tip to remember is if in the verb before the infinitive ending there is a vowel, The gerund is going to be {-yendo}**
Example: verb= leer-> Estoy leyendo un libro./ I am reading a book.
The present progressive in Spanish is used the same way as in English. It’s called the gerund and could be used the same way as in English; to catch up, safe future plans, and to express what is happening at the current moment.
