The Present Moment is Important

The Present Moment is Important

Scheduling college tours for my teenager today, I felt time slip through my fingers like sand. It seems like yesterday I was helping with elementary school science projects, and now we're discussing university choices.

This moment became a window into a larger truth: we're always chasing the next milestone. Whether it's a degree, a house, a relationship, or a dream, we're perpetually focused on what's ahead. But what about now?

Right now, my teenager still calls out "good night" before bed. She still leave her shoes in the middle of the hallway (okay, maybe I won't miss that one). These moments aren't waiting rooms for the future - they're life itself, happening in real time.

Think about your own life. When was the last time you really savored a moment? Not for an Instagram post or a story to tell later, but just for itself? That first sip of morning coffee. The way sunlight paints shadows on your wall. A friend's unexpected text that makes you smile.

We can't stop time. We can't make these moments last longer. But we can be there for them while they're happening. We can notice them. Feel them. Live them.

My teenager won't always be down the hall. Your favorite café might close. That friend might move away. That's not meant to be sad - it's meant to wake us up to the beauty of what's here, right now.

So today, I'm making a choice. To stop treating the present like a waiting room for the future. To notice more. To rush less. To let moments be moments, in all their messy, imperfect glory.

Because one day, these ordinary moments will be the ones we miss the most.

What moments are you rushing past today?
