Present Day Education Scenario and Recommendations

Present Day Education System lacks Academic with the Practical Knowledge required to apply the Skills Learnt. The quality of the present day education system has been lagging and we don’t have a clear mapping of appropriate education with the prospective career growth.

This article call attention to cultivation of intelligibility of thought and education of concepts connected with various tools, rather than just the usage skills of a specific tool.

The Curriculum should clearly include topics to facilitate and improve thinking skills, such as step wise thinking and logical reasoning, which are not subject specific. At present Subjects are taught independently and does not make the connections of topics in to other subjects and to real world applications explicitly.

Historically, the theory and practice of curriculum has been approached in four possible ways [Smith 2000], corresponding to different purposes that a curriculum can achieve: curriculum as a body of knowledge to be transmitted, curriculum as an attempt to achieve certain ends in students, curriculum as process and curriculum as praxis.

Hence, the following needs to be done:

 1.   Develop Subject fluency, not just Subject literacy.

2.   Develop thinking process skills, not just content mastery.

3.   Highlight the interconnectedness of knowledge, not just address a topic/subject in isolation.

The  Curriculum should addresses thinking process skills, fundamental concepts of the Subject and literacy skills, in manner that themes and topics are revisited with increasing depth in each successive visit, and in a context that reflects the inter-connectedness of different subject domains.

 For achieving it, the curriculum may be classified into five themes:

• familiarity with Subject,
• Subject applications,
• thinking process skills,
• development of new applications / innovations,
• and social values and ethics.

 By doing the above changes, we are sure that India can build very robust trained resources.
