Presence-The universal quality often ignored

As i sat in a training room filled with people of different backgrounds, i couldn't help but notice how predictable some were by the second day , choosing to sit at back of the lecture room, quiet and almost making sure to blend in without attracting attention.

That is how most of us approach life , work and even relationships , quietly making sure our presence is barely enough not to attract attention.

Presence is often in corporate circles hardly mentioned yet it is the one quality whose absence is associated with stagnation in career, inability to lead not only self but others.

When people say that 'one is present' it is because their energy, appearance, body language and charisma not only charms but persuades one to feel equally energized. Being present is thrilling, inspiring, absorbing and even frightening at the same time, it is the energy you feel when you are alive. Truth is we all yearn to be present and to be met by others who are equally present on our lives .

When you draw away from the crowd, seek to blend in quietly almost incognito then chances are that your energy sits on the lowest level. It is such times that also one feels ignored, dismissed and even detached from surroundings , this is worse at work because when presence is absent you are uninspired and often disengaged completely . The risk at remaining for too long at this lowest level of energy is that you become dull and your passion for life is almost sucked out .

When we seek to be present, we are really drawing on positive energy, you are focused and you seek to be at your best and also influence those around you .

When we are present you practice listening because you value what others are saying and understand that in order to have a meaningful conversation you would need to listen intently , you read the body language , tone of voice because you are interested in the whole person.

Presence is a universal quality that great leaders often have in abundance , they focus on relationships , lead through permission and not tittles , but also see people for who they are , with great potential and in need of guidance to unleash that potential .

Presence allows one to feel comfortable with others, to appreciate that everyone has unique qualities if we really pay attention, to impact on others positively , to be able to share in their energy and transform others.

When you lack presence, that it is unlikely you can be able to influence , effectively lead or even connect with people .
