Preparing For The Worst

Preparing For The Worst

In the past few weeks, we’ve gone from sitting in the garden and having a weekend BBQ to a deep dive back into a cold winter full of wind and rain. With news articles pumping out weather warnings and information on preparing for power outages. It often feels like we’re always on the backfoot in this country. In today’s fast-paced business environment, a reliable power supply is more critical than ever. We’re proud of the fact that many businesses use Pleavin Power as their first point of call in a power outage.

Time after time, we’ve delivered rapid services to businesses getting them out of some of their darkest hours (quite literally). A power outage can cause a huge range of problems for a business:?

Operational Disruptions?

One of the most immediate and visible impacts of a power outage is the disruption of day-to-day operations. For many businesses, even a short interruption in power can halt production lines, delay services and lead to missed deadlines. This can result in significant financial losses, especially for industries that rely heavily on continuous processes such as manufacturing, healthcare, and logistics.?

Data Loss and IT Downtime?

In our digital age, businesses rely heavily on IT infrastructure to store data, manage operations, and communicate with clients. A power outage can lead to data loss if proper backups are not in place, and prolonged downtime can cripple a company's ability to function. The cost of recovering lost data and the potential damage to customer relationships can be substantial.?

Safety and Security Concerns?

Power outages can also compromise the safety and security of your business premises. Emergency lighting, alarms, and security systems may fail, leaving your business vulnerable to theft or accidents. Ensuring that you have a reliable backup power source can help maintain safety standards and protect your assets.?

Financial Impact?

The financial repercussions of power outages extend beyond immediate operational losses. Downtime can lead to lost revenue, increased operational costs, and potential penalties for failing to meet contractual obligations. For small businesses, these financial impacts can be particularly devastating, potentially threatening their survival.?

Reputation Damage?

In today’s competitive market, maintaining a strong reputation is essential. Power outages that lead to service delays or cancellations can damage your business's reputation, leading to a loss of customer trust and loyalty. Consistent reliability is key to retaining customers and attracting new ones.?

As a business owner and of course, an engineer, I've seen terrible things caused by power outages far too many times. Since starting Pleavin Power, it’s been one of my main goals that with just one phone call, everything can change for a business stuck in a bad situation. I’ve travelled up and down the country at all hours of the day with my team to get people back on supply with an emergency power solution they can rely on. We work at anytime, anywhere and in any weather condition.?

I think for many organisations, you just genuinely don’t think it’s something that will ever happen to you. It’s difficult for businesses to allocate costs to contingency planning in a climate where business rates are so high and finances are tight but it certainly saves on cost when it comes to a large scale emergency such as a power outage. With Pleavin Power, there are so many ways our customers can prevent the worst from happening. We offer regular generator servicing or remote monitoring with GenStream.??

We also deliver in depth disaster recovery plans with an intrusive site survey detailing things such as connection points, isolation points, operating environments, load profiles, fluid sampling and more. Reactive Response, Incident Management & Disaster Recovery Plans are available to any business or network operator that relies on a continuous portable power station to remain operational. This includes industries such as hospitals, data centres, peaking plants, combined heat and power, production facilities, manufacturing facilities, Rail and anywhere that loss of power can cause disruption.?

So my question to you is.. What would happen if the power went off in your business? Do you have a contingency plan in place? Would you be left in the dark? Do you know how to locate your power source? Do you heavily rely on one site manager to know everything about the old building you’re in? Just know that whether you’re looking to get ahead or if you’ve found yourself in the dark, I can personally guarantee the highest quality service with Pleavin Power.??

I remember working on the West Coast of the South Island in New Zealand in a bar job when I was 20yo. Proper rugged country, and it wasn't uncommon for the power to go off but usually the back up genie would kick in. One evening it didn't though. We all grabbed bottles of Scrumpies out of the fridge and went to someone's place for a good old fire chat and guitar sing-along hang out! Was so good being off work for the evening and all hanging out together. So I am not saying that contingency is not good I am just saying that is ONE thing that could happen if the power went off ?? Probably not such a happy event for the owners missing out on the evenings takings though!
