It’s clear that with rising life expectancy, the traditional notion of retiring at 60 will soon become a thing of the past. Many people will choose to remain actively engaged in some form of ‘work’ even if they’re financially secure, whether it’s going part time, changing career or volunteering.
This might be something employers need to make a note of, especially if recruitment consultancy 55/Redefined prediction is correct. They say that within the next 20 years, the UK’s working age population will shrink by 25%. During the same timeframe, the number of over-60s is expected to grow by 40%.?
Professor Andrew Scott, economist and longevity expert, has calculated that those who live to 100 have around 100,000 extra productive hours to offer compared with those who live to age 70. What will you do with them?!
