Preparing for Growth: North Port's Appeal to Commercial Developers

For the first time, the City of North Port attended the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) annual convention, a significant milestone in our proactive business attraction strategy. This year’s event, held from May 19 - 21, brought together about 35,000 commercial development industry professionals focused on dealmaking, tapping trends and making connections.

In 2023, the City of North Port expanded our critical wet infrastructure through I-75 at Sumter and Toledo Blade Boulevards, preparing thousands of acres for commercial development. This foundational work has positioned North Port as a prime location for future investments. Our aggressive and proactive business attraction approach means we meet end-users where they are, ensuring that North Port is on their radar for potential growth and expansion.

Most commercial developers at the conference were particularly focused on North Port’s remarkable population growth, population density, average median income, median age, workforce demographics, and favorable zoning and incentives.

The City of North Port has positioned itself as a business-friendly city, with new businesses opening their doors every day and flourishing in our regions market. Developers and potential end-users understand that now is the time to get in on North Port's growth with a primary focus in the dining, entertainment, hotel and childcare industries.

Our strategic location on I-75 and proximity to beaches, airports and seaports makes North Port well-positioned to attract the kind of commercial development that meets the wants and needs of our growing population.

As we look ahead, the City of North Port is dedicated to leveraging the insights and connections gained at the ICSC convention to drive commercial development and economic growth. Our participation marks a significant step in our young City’s growth journey to attract quality businesses and further improve the quality of life for our residents.

By meeting end-users where they are and offering prepared, strategically located land, we are well-positioned to capitalize on the evolving commercial development landscape. Together, we will continue to build a vibrant, prosperous community that meets the needs of our residents and businesses alike.
