Preparing for the Future at the UTD RISE Center

I interned at the UTD RISE Center this summer, and gained valuable insight into how technology has affected the retail industry in recent years. The well-respected Director of this center, Charles Haseman , introduced me to industry leaders and corporate sponsors, taught me the importance of communication, and helped me adapt to a fast-paced working environment. Most importantly, he shared that - while technical skills are valuable, employers are searching for two key fundamental skills in new hires: attitude and time efficiency.?

Thank you to Megan Harrison for the opportunity to visit corporate offices and network with influential leaders in the retail industry, and thank you to Kelly Kaar as well for being my supervisor and guiding my internship progress.

My mentor, Peter, shared his advice on how to be successful moving forward into the workforce. We worked on my time management skills by creating a system to efficiently manage my workflow. This was extremely beneficial and helped boost productivity and simplify operations. In addition, my mentor prepared me for the interview process and the questions that should be expected. He was also able to answer any question I had pertaining to my internship. This was a wonderful experience, and I hope to use this invaluable knowledge in the future!
