Preparing for the future.. that never arrives

Happy New Year!

With January now behind us, and the future ahead, the idea of preparing for the future has always puzzled me. Why??

Because as we know, the future never actually arrives.

Time is a continuum from the past to the present to the future. But these distinctions between the past, present and future are artificial constructs.?

The future doesn’t come into being simply because the calendar clicks over from December to January.?

The future is constantly occurring and evolving. We are continuously experiencing the subtle shifts that shape this future — and yet we think and plan as if we need to do something different and special to prepare for it.

In reality,?we need to be preparing to cope with the constantly shifting environment and the forces that are shaping and changing it right now.?

We are in the future now!

So, how do we do this?

Over the next while, I will outline the 3 core capabilities to prepare for the future. These capabilities are:

1.???Crafting strategy

2.???Implementing strategy

3.???Leading the strategy

I will provide some insights into some of the topics under each core capability.

These will include:

• Learning to make sense of the emergent environment
• Thinking strategically

And I will share articles, case studies and practical ideas to help you and your organisation prepare for a successful future.
