Preparing First New Screenplay of 2016
It can be tough deciding what to write next when you've accumulated years of notes, outlines, and rough drafts (yes, I'm a proud supporter of the Oxford comma). Since it is a new year and last year included so many new experiences, I'm going to continue the trend and work on a new screenplay.
The story's been bouncing around my head for months. It's an original horror tale set in modern suburbia and involves Native American legends and the clearing of old forests for new developments. What happens when forgotten boundaries and ancient treaties are bulldozed away? More than just birds and ground hogs can be upset at the destruction of their homes. I researched our local tribal legends as well as general forest lore for some juicy background information.
My teen female lead is ready to jump into Act 1. I'm still filling in some blanks in Act 2, and have two potential endings laid out. My next step is index card outlining and beginning the first draft. I know there are numerous outlining programs but nothing beats physically writing on index cards and arranging them across a large wooden table in a quiet library.
I'm looking at a PG-13 rating. There maybe sequel potential but it's not a focus.
I will update my progression. I am motivated to have this presentation ready for some 2016 contests.
Cheers.
