Preparing for a cloud engineer interview
Yea, we get this one in our inbox all the time.
Someone has been impressive to the point that a company has requested their presence in a form on an interview for that role they have been working so hard towards.
We've all been there right?
Whether it was a tech interview or not. We've been in the line of fire, sweating with anxiety as high as gas prices with your heart racing faster than a AMG GT 63.
Well lucky for you, we have some great tips that you can use to help you prepare for your next interview for that cloud engineer role.
FIRST THINGS FIRST
Get the company's name right ??
You wouldn't believe how many people apply for a role and forget the name of the company they applied to.
That is not even step number 1, that is just common sense.
Tip # 1 - Understand the company's mission, goals and future
This may require some research but the best way to start is reading the company's 'about us' section.
Understand what they do, how they do it and where they are trying to go in the future.
You may find some points that will help you discover exactly how your experience can help them in that way.
Understand that they have a problem that needs solving. Are you the right person?
Tip # 2 - Understand the JD (Job Description)
You would be surprise of the number of people who don't make sure they understand the job description of the role. Only to be dumbfounded when asked about it in the interview.
Learn the role and understand how your skillset aligns to the skills they are looking for you to have!
You need to have experience with migration? Great let's align some experience you've had in previous roles with this particular skill.
Or if you don't have experience migrating any production services to cloud then talk about your experience migrating in a simulated environment. Here is how!
- First you will talk about the scenario or simulated scenario and why you are doing it
- Then you will talk about the tools you've used to do this and why you've chosen those particular services and tools.
- Then you can discuss any failures, and how you found a solution to help you successfully complete the mission! You can even share some things you've done in a bootcamp or program like Levelupintech.com
And that my friends is called 'Sharing your experience'
Tip # 3 - Research the person interviewing you
You might not have thought about this but if you have the name of the person you are interviewing with (you can request it as well). You might want to do some digging to understand this person and their background.
You may find that you both have some things in common or that this person has worked on similar projects etc.
You can use this to draw up conversation and build rapport. This lets the interviewer know that you've done the research to understand not only the company, but them as well.
With These Powers Combined You Will Be CAPPTTAINN..... (joke for those who know Captain Planet)
Sorry, with these 3 tips combined, you can set yourself up for the most successful interview you've ever been on.
So let's prep right now and land this role!
So there you have it, 3 tips that will change the way you interview!
