Workshop Preparation Tips

Workshop Preparation Tips

Have you ever run a workshops or training program where the learners turn up with no idea why they are there or what they are going to learn? You end up spending the first 30 minutes (plus) on introductions, expectations, course overview, etc., cutting into valuable learning time. With a push to shorten course timeframes, preparing your learners is more important than ever.

Here are some tips on how to prepare your learners for learning that will allow you to spend more time delivering a quality learning experience that will deliver stronger, longer lasting results - and help build anticipation and excitement about your program so they turn up ready to learn:

1. Send a pre-training email with the program details. Start with the basics, the program logistics, the duration, and the format and include the outcomes and benefits, any expectations, and pre-reading materials. This helps them to be comfortable knowing more about the program and how it will help them.

2. Give them more details on what to expect from the training program. Be clear about the level of participation and engagement you expect from them, as well as any assessment or evaluation that will take place. This will help them to mentally prepare for the course and arrive with a focused mindset.

3. Outline Learning Objectives: It's essential to outline the program's learning objectives and explain how they relate to the learners' work or personal development goals. By doing this, learners can see the relevance and importance of what they will be learning. Be specific and avoid vague or broad objectives that may confuse the learners.
