Reaching a new year is a significant milestone for a lot of small businesses. It is both a sign of growth and a sign of success. But now is not the time to rest on our laurels, as a new year means a new set of challenges. Here are seven things we can do to get our business ready for the New Year.
Review the Year
Review this year by looking at your achievements and learning from your mistakes. Take note of everything to remind you what worked this year, what didn’t, and why. Sometimes we need to look at the past to prepare for the future.
Review Your Customers
Look to your customers and clients, old and current. Ask yourself why some transactions worked and why others didn’t. Were there situations you could have handled better? Was there an oversight that caused a problem? Know the answers to avoid similar mistakes in the future.
Review Your Goals
Now it’s time to ask yourself, what goals were you able to accomplish this year, and what goals have you fallen short on? Think about the actions you took to reach your targets. Then think about the problems that made you miss your objectives. Use these insights to improve next year’s performance.
Build Strategies for the New Year
Once you have reviewed everything, it’s time to devise strategies that will elevate your company even higher. Use whatever insights you have gained to avoid making the same mistakes as you build upon the past successes. Discuss the strategies with your team to get input from them as well.
Manage Your Accounts
Make sure your records are in order, especially the paperwork of your employees or hired contractors. Make sure all of your accounts are properly dated and filed to avoid problems with the law.
Stay Informed
Keep yourself up-to-date about any potential changes in the law or policies that may affect your company. Contact the right people, such as your business attorney, who can help you and the business be compliant with any new changes.
Start Anew
Begin the new year with a clean slate. Archive old emails, clear work boards, and empty your schedule of everything. Focus on the tasks that need your immediate attention while getting rid of the nonessential ones. Doing this needed clean-up will help you get on the right track for the year.
