Prepare for the next crisis before it hits!

Prepare for the next crisis before it hits!

Hello leaders,??

Remember when the pandemic hit, and everything was disrupted big time??

If it taught HRs (and the rest of us) anything, it’s that crises have a low probability of occurring but a high impact, and they’re almost always unexpected and unique.?

So, the question becomes: if you never know what it can be about, how can you ever deal with them the right way??

Ian Mitroff might have the answer.?

He gave a famous crisis management process that can help you handle unknown crisis—no matter the magnitude!?

  • First off, create early warning systems—it can be as simple as implementing software for employees reports on safety incidents or near-misses, setting up automated alerts, or using sensors to monitor workplace conditions.?
  • Systematically plan, prepare, and train for crisis—this is where you create crisis management plans (CMPs), business continuity plans, and disaster recovery plans (DRPs).?
  • Execute existing plans, while adapting and developing new methods to minimize the impact of the current crisis on business.?
  • Recover and return to normal operations.?
  • Review and assess the performance of this crisis management process and document the lessons you learned WITHOUT playing the blame game.?
  • Finally, redesign the crisis management process by incorporating all your learnings from the previous stage.?

To make it even simpler for you, here's a prompt template you can try-

Prompt

"We are currently facing a crisis involving [brief description of the crisis, e.g., a significant data breach that has compromised sensitive employee and company information]. What are the immediate steps we should take to manage this situation effectively? Please provide specific strategies for [aspect of crisis management, e.g., communication with employees, securing data, mitigating impact], as well as long-term solutions to prevent similar issues in the future."

Engagement Tip???

Launch a Mini "Crisis Chat" Series ???

Organize a series of short, informal "Crisis Chat" sessions. And invite employees from various departments to participate in a brainstorming session.??

Each time, focus on a different potential crisis scenario (e.g., data breach, workplace conflict, natural disaster).??

Hypothetical crises help identify potential issues and solutions before they become reality.?

Until next time,??

"Embrace the unexpected. Challenge the status quo.

And most importantly, never stop learning."??

By staying curious and adaptable, you can equip your teams to navigate any workplace challenge that may come your way.?
