Effective October 2024, employers must take proactive measures now to actively prevent sexual harassment in the workplace. This change requires immediate action to educate and prepare you and your employees, ensuring a comprehensive understanding across diverse cultures and generations.
Understanding the Impact
Sexual harassment contributes significantly to toxic workplace environments and often goes unreported. Employers must understand its implications and take preventive steps to uphold their duty of care.
What Constitutes Sexual Harassment?
Unwelcome sexual behaviour can be physical, verbal, in person, or online. It includes unwanted advances, intrusive questions, offensive jokes, explicit messages, sharing pornographic material, and inappropriate touching. Such actions create discomfort, humiliation, and intimidation, and can be perpetrated by anyone in the workplace.
