TLDR

Teachable Moment:?Embrace feedback with an open mind and prepare to engage in a dialogue focused on opportunities for growth.

The Problem

If you truly want to grow as a leader, you’ll need to be able to take feedback and criticism.

It can be hard to hear that you’re not performing the best or that there’s room for improvement, but it’s important to be able to take feedback (when relevant) and learn from it.

When leaders don’t learn how to take feedback, they can become defensive and closed off to new ideas.

This can stunt your growth and prevent you from improving your skills.

Additionally, it can create a toxic work environment where your team is afraid to give you feedback and have honest conversations - ultimately lowering productivity and team performance.

The Solution

There are a few key steps that you can take to prepare yourself for feedback.

First, set aside time to really listen to the feedback and try to understand where the other person is coming from. This will help you to avoid getting defensive or shutting down completely.

Next, ask questions if there are any details that you’re unclear about. This can help you clarify the feedback and ensure that you understand it correctly.

Finally, make a plan for how you’re going to use this feedback in your work. Whether it’s addressing specific areas of improvement or simply validating what you’re doing well, understanding how to receive feedback can help you grow as a leader.

With the right mindset and preparation, you can turn feedback into an opportunity for growth and success.

Keep learning,

Josh
