Prepare for blank sailings

Prepare for blank sailings

New analysis in the SeaIntel Sunday Spotlight indicates a high likelihood for substantial cancellations of sailings in Q4.

Following the peak season in Q3, we typically see a slight reduction in capacity in Q4 in the key Asia-Europe and Asia-US trade lanes. Comparing the typical pattern with the currently announced carrier deployment reveals a very substantial overcapacity problem for Q4.

If the markets develop in line with traditional seasonality, shippers need to prepare for approximately 6 blank sailings every week on average, 2 on Asia-Europe and 4 on the Transpacific equally split between the east and west coasts.
