Prepare for 15 Days

It happens….here in Los Angeles.  An earthquake happened and has isolated your community due to infrastructure issues with the roads.  Your house has damage so you feel it safer to stay near the house in your yard.

So, here we are 15 days later and still no electricity in our neighborhood.  No access to our normal lives.  Sound like a movie?  What if you were actually waking up and day 15 was your reality?

So, I took these questions and started looking at solutions that I can implement NOW in order to provide my family with the basic comforts of home after an earthquake and massive power outages.  And, I live in the middle of LA surrounded by businesses to include grocery stores, restaurants, retail and hospitals. These businesses may not be able to support your needs so you need to rely on yourself and perhaps community organizations.

How will you respond in this situation?  How will you prepare for this situation?

 Prepare For 15 Days

I spent all day Sunday relaxing at home on the couch in my PJs while searching through Amazon Prime for solutions.  Mind you, this is not a plug for AP, it’s just a tool like any others.

Here are some of the Stylish equipment items I found and either purchased for my family to use or added to my Shopping List in Amazon Prime:

  1. Hand-cranked washing machine. $69.00
  2. Pop-up tent equipment. Depending on the number of people you have to worry about $120-$1,000.00.  I purchased a 3-person tent.
  3. Solar panel fan $230.00.
  4. Solar panel system to power up a small home or tent system, $3,000+.
  5. Battery & invertor system to house the solar powered electricity $1500.00.
  6. Cooking systems to include BBQ’s $99.00 to 1,500. Let’s get real, it depends on how many people you are cooking for & how fancy you want to get.  I purchased a small unit.
  7. Propane tanks, you will want several canisters which start at $30.00.
  8. Getting really stylish & you have the batteries & invertor, a solar powered air conditioner. $300.00 - $1,500.00.
  9. Generator - I’m still researching so I can purchase one with solar capabilities versus an oil based fuel source.  More to come in the near future.
  10. You should already have water & food supplies to support your family. Amazon Prime has great water storage solutions!
  11. Portable toilets. $10.00 - $90.00 depending on the system you choose.  Don’t forget the extras!

The items to support you & your family for a long-term period may seem expensive but will afford you the benefit of self-sustaining near or in your own home.  Plus, you can use them for camping purposes in non-disaster times!

Now, keep going.  Keep preparing!

Great considerations - Your not only looking at earthquakes. Include floods, significant storms, tornadoes, hurricanes - all have an impact where services maybe out for over a month or more. What do you do?

There has never been a better time to get involved with renewable energy sources.
