What else should you consider when Estimating Electro-Technology Projects ?

As an Electro-Technology Estimator and Designer you may have to consider at the early stages of Estimating Electro-Technology Projects many things??

From the very outset you must carefully consider and understand a project's purpose and consider the Strengths and Weaknesses of your current resources and previous projects of a similar nature??

Understanding the Scope of Works will alert you to Hazards and Risk Factors that could create a cost Blowout??

The Scope will define the boundaries of the Project along with staff accountability and responsibility for verification and approvals of all completed works??

Once this has been established and you are comfortable in complying with the tasks you can turn your attention to process and installation methods, which is reliant on resources, workforce skill and availability??

Remember.......Electro-Technology installations are labor intense, therefore you need to develop close and productive working relationships with your installation teams and therefore you should consider them part of the Estimating Team??

Estimating materials is not rocket science, however, estimating labor productivity can be a challenge??

To accurately Estimate productivity, an Estimator needs accurate records therefore years of experience??

Over time, with discipline and due diligence this practice can define an Estimators Reputation and assist when considering Labor Unit Rates under varying "Environmental Influencing Factors" and "Degrees of Difficulty"??

All Tenders/Quotations have a margin of error due to "External Influencing Factors", "Degrees of Difficulty" and other "Hazards" which in most cases cannot be controlled (but need to be reviewed, identified and evaluated) so an accurate, realistic and achievable budget Estimate needs to consider and include these from the very start??

To take the Design and Construction of a Project from its conception to its completion, early Customer Engagement is necessary to determine Project Delivery Methods and whether the Customer/Principal will issue a Request For Quote (RFQ), Request For Tender (RFT), Expression of Interest (EOI), or Request for Proposal (RFP) and whether they will use an Open Tender or Selective Tender process??

Let's start by stating the obvious - EVERY Electro-Technology infrastructure estimate is different and so can the Project Delivery Method??
