Happy new year in Advance!!! We are all set to welcome 2022, meanwhile setting our life goals and also looking for new opportunities in our careers.

I hope many of you are looking for new job opportunities and planning to switch jobs with relocation. For the past two years, due to pandemics, many of us were in a situation no one thought about changing their job because of job security, location problems, commitment to long-term projects, family conditions, etc. But now, everything is slowly settling down to normal. Due to this, many of you are looking for new opportunities without hesitation. Today I'm here to give some tips to prepare for your next job interview and how to do pre-interview preparation.

Your success in a job interview depends on how you prepare for it. Interview preparation primarily involves researching the job and the company and thoughtfully considering your answers to the interview questions. Let's discuss the few steps involved in preparing for the interview and improving your chances of success.

How to prepare for a job interview:

Pre-interview Preparation: It's very important to do the pre-interview preparation. We can't attend the interview without knowing about the organization, job description, job location. When I was looking for a job change, I use to go to the job location 2 days before scheduling the interview to check whether it is convenient. Here are some essential steps to follow for pre-interview preparation:

  1. Review the job description

After receiving the call from the recruiter, the first thing one has to do is to read the job description thoroughly & understand how the employer has described the role and responsibility and what kind of candidate would be suitable for the role. In case, if you didn't receive the job description from a recruiter, ask him/her to share the job description with the company website link & then carefully review it.

2. Detective Work

Employer/ Interviewer expects you have knowledge about the organization and which domain you have applied to. We should do thorough research e.g read the company website, social media profiles, blogs, etc. And also check competitors' history and opportunities in the sector.

Based on all this, one has to analyze how your profile would match the role.

3. Reverse Thinking

Just think from the Interviewer's point of view, so you will get an idea of what kind of questions the interviewer might ask in the interview. Make a list of common interview questions and prepare impressive responses that will showcase your skills and your interest in the job.

4. Update your social media profile

Nowadays, social networking has become very important. Use various platforms such as Linkedin, Twitter, etc. Make sure you have an updated profile. In case, you don't have it, create the profile and highlight your strengths and work experience. An employer can go through your profile on social media and get an idea about your personality.

5. Arrangements- Traveling & dress code

Do some research on job location before your interview day. You can check the location using google maps. Based on distance and time, plan accordingly for you're convenience. Just in case you need any help you can contact your concerning HR.

Dress code: Keep it as simple and elegant as possible. Make sure the cloth is clean and wrinkle-free. If you plan to spray, make sure it is mild.

Interview Day

  1. Reach the location early

Reach the location 15 minutes before the interview schedule. Reaching early helps reduce nervousness and anxiety.

2. Speak the right body language

Maintain positive body language like sitting properly on a chair, making eye contact, speaking clearly. And during the interview first, listen to the question and understand it properly later try to answer them clearly. Be confident while speaking with the interview panel.

3. Ask questions at the end

At the end of the interview, the interviewer would give you the opportunity to ask your queries or doubts. You should prepare some questions about the job, workplace, project, personal development in the job. This will show your interest level.

Here are some uncovered tips for interview preparation

  1. You can prepare a small presentation mentioning your current job profile & how you're upgrading yourself as per new technologies.
  2. Avoid talking about your personal problems and never badmouth about your current/past employer.
  3. Keep your answers short and clear.
  4. If you don't know the answer, be honest.
  5. Keep your mobile in silent mode or switch off.
