Painting your facility is an investment. Whether you are repainting an entire building, or a single wall, prep work is essential. Poor preparation can really set a project back and cost you more in the long run.

Paint Needs to Stick to the Surface

Unprepared or improperly prepared surfaces will make it difficult for paint to stick and apply evenly. Paint and other coatings will often peel, bubble, and crack because it is not sticking to the surface being painted. If the surface that is being painted is not prepared, time and money will be wasted and the coating will not last nearly as long as it should. In order for paint to stick to the surface, it should be cleaned, and smooth, this can mean pressure washing and sanding.

Repairs are not Just Cosmetic Fixes

Repairing small holes and cracks in walls may seem like they are just cosmetic, but they can lead to bigger problems. These "small" issues can be signs of a bigger problem, the wall could be rotting and need to be replaced. If ignored, there is a chance the paint or coating will not stick or hold up over time. When deciding to paint a surface, look for cracks, rust, or crumbling wood.

Benefits of a Good Primer

A good primer can make all the difference. The primer's main role is to give the new paint or coatings something to stick to. In order to prevent imperfections, you must use a good primer. Otherwise, discoloration will show through very easily, especially when the color is being dramatically changed.
