Don’t Fall Victim to Premature Evacuation: The Year Isn’t Over Yet!

The biggest mistake you can make right now is slowing down your Tableau development as the year comes to a close.

I see it every year, and it drives me mad:

“It’s nearly the end of the year. I’ll ease off and pick this up after Christmas.”

STOP! That’s a classic case of Premature Evacuation.

Here’s why it’s a bad move:

Right now, people are in decision-making mode. From year-end reporting to setting up for next year’s plans, everyone needs clear, actionable insights now. And their year end and start of year needs are different. If your dashboards aren’t delivering, then neither are you.

Slowing down now doesn’t just hurt your year-end momentum—it sets you up for a messy start in January. Come January, you’ll be scrambling while others are already capitalising on their head start.

Instead, this is your moment to double down. December can be your most productive month in Tableau, if you play it right.

?????Why Now Is the Perfect Time to Level Up:

1???Demand Is High: Year-end reporting and decision-making mean stakeholders need fast, reliable insights now.

2???Budgets Are Finalising: Teams are locking in tools, processes, and plans for 2025, making this the time to showcase your value.

3???Momentum Carries Over: A strong December sets you up for a smooth, confident start to the new year.

But to avoid Premature Evacuation, you need focus. Here’s how to make the most of the final stretch:

???Three Ways to End the Year Strong in Tableau:

1???Quick Wins Before Christmas: Deliver focused dashboards that solve immediate year-end problems—like identifying top-performing products, services, or regions and pre-empting possible services issues.

2???Prevent Year-End / Start Chaos: Make sure you have error-free dashboards that roll over to next years data smoothly—keeping teams aligned and avoiding chaos. Look for “hard-coding” that will break - comparisons to budget and previous year are common causes as well as filters and parameters that are fixed to specific dates.

3???Set Up for an Epic 2025: Start creating interactive dashboards that showcase what’s possible next year. This groundwork pays off massively in January.

If you feel tempted to slow down, think again. The end of the year is when your Tableau skills can shine the brightest.

?Be honest (and helpful to others)… What have you had to fix in a mad panic on returning to work after the holidays ?

We will be holding a planning session for small teams on 19 Dec 2024 to help get your 2025 year started with a bang.

There will be a small fee - want to know more details?
